Background

Mahlogonolo “Nolo” Buthelezi is a Pretoria-based rugby player who plays wing and covers fullback. A right-footed athlete with pace, a high work rate on and off the ball and a reliable small kicking game, he has spent the last seven months in the professional rugby environment at Harlequins International Rugby Institute / UXI Sport & Physical Education.

That environment combines professional coaching, gym and field conditioning, and accredited academic options — giving him the structure to develop as a player while keeping his long-term career options open.

His selection for the U21 Limpopo Blue Bulls Training Squad in June was the breakthrough that turned years of club, school and academy work into a recognised provincial opportunity. After three weeks training with the squad, an arm injury during the first warm-up game at Loskop Rugby Club in Modimolle interrupted his progress. Recovery is now the immediate priority so he can return to compete for selection.

Nolo wants to be known as a player who keeps showing up: for his team, for his development, and for the people backing him.
